Nutrient Solution

The nutrient solution is produced by adding a combination of three concentrated nutrient products.   These three products are mixed differently for each of three phases of plant life as follows:

When changing from one nutrient mix to the next, the entire system is emptied, filled with water and allowed to run for about an hour, again emptied and re-filled with water.   Then the appropriate amount of nutrients added for the new plant phase.

An Excel spread sheet has been produced to help determine the measure of each solution for each stage (NOTE: if your browser directly opens the spread sheet you must use "File, Save as" to save the spread sheet on your system for latter use).  A most important factor to consider is the total amount of water in the system at each stage.  During the first stage the large system contains about 55 gallons of water, while the small system contains about 16 gallons.  During subsequent stages, the large system contains about 30 gallons and the small system about 14 gallons.
